embracing my shadow

Shadow on Concrete Wall

Somewhere, deep inside, many of us delude ourselves with the belief that if we are truly enlightened, we will never experience any darkness. That belief is a fallacy.

Everything is dual; everything has poles or opposites. All light cast shadows ... including the light within us. Our "shadows" are aspects of self that we keep hidden. These aspects might include our deepest fears, shames, regrets, judgments, and core beliefs ... not only about life and others, but about ourselves as well.  Many of them we prefer to avoid or ignore, yet they dictate our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions.

Embracing the shadow is a necessary part of growth, of becoming whole ... as the conditions of our outer life (relationships, careers, etc.) reflect the conditions of our inner state.
